What's weathering and erosion? Erosion is the moving of soil and rock by wind, water, or gravity. There are four types of erosion: wind, water, temperature, and gravity. Did you know rocks can change from one type to another type. Mass movements is when weathered rock and soil are moved down hill by gravity. A landslide is an example of a mass movement. Glaciers cause both weathering and erosion. Glaciers are large rivers of ice. Glaciers form where snow is on the ground year round. Water such as floods or rivers can carry large amounts of sediments to new places. It can take thousands or millions of years for a river's moving water to carve out a valley.
